VPL Puppetry and Story Time, EartHand, and Crafty Canada

The Art Carnivale was packed with Arts and Crafts for families to enjoy. The Crafty Canada booth, Masquerade Mask making, EartHand fabric rope making, Uncle Hoonki instrument workshop, and VPL Puppetry Story Time were all busy getting crafty!

Thank you to Vancouver Public Library for having three 15 minute Puppetry Storytime shows.

Thank you to the Artists that helped create the Crafty Canada booth and the Board Members who helped to run the craft tables. There was some great trivia for Canada 150+ and engaging craft making. The bunting flags looked nice and colourful on the field too!
hmm where does Quebec go? Some skill testing questions.

Masquerade mask table was in full effect with all the creative kids. They used almost all the masks we cut out!! Great job everyone, thank you for coming to the Art Carnivale at Killarney!
Masks were brightly decorated with jewels and feathers to make Masquerade Masks. On a side note- did you know we used file folders destined for recycling to create the masks?  Thank you to all the Volunteers who helped the children to make them.

Thank you to EartHand for their involvement to make the bunting flags and the fabric rope making at the event with reused and up-cycled fabrics. What an awesome idea to do a large macrame as well!

Bunting Flags in Killarney Community Centre

With summer just around the corner we hung the flags in the lobby of Killarney Community Centre this week. The Summer Art Carnivale will be on July 8th and all the bunting flags will be on the field, but until then we can enjoy them in the centre. They are so colourful and fun, they look magical!! As the children were coming out of preschool they started to notice and were excited. Here is the hallway in the lobby looking all festive. Thank you to everyone that participated. We completed 4 long bunting flags of 10m and then there are some smaller lengths for the day of the event, and we are still sewing! See you at the Carnivale! Above is a photo of the first bunting flag we made 10m long with the old parachute fabric, and below is the long flag banner that we made also with the parachute fabric. The beautiful poster is ready for the Summer Art Carnivale. You will also see it on the front of the Summer 2017 program guide.

Joe Chatsis Cree Hooping Dancer and The Culture Saves Lives Pow Wow Drummers

Joe Chatsis performing a hooping dance. Here is 13 hoops in a formation of a bird. Johnny Sam and the Culture Saves Lives Pow Wow Drummers getting warmed up with their first song. After going through the hoops and weaving in and out Joe created these globes with the hoops. What a talent to share with us. Thank you Joe! With Killarney pool in the background Joe is using the hoops and his body to create formations. We were applauding Joe's Hooping Dance and then the Pow Wow Drummers said one more song...  Joe led us in one last dance called "the friendship circle" where we all held hand and stepped with our right foot and did a small jump and shuffled our left foot. We got pretty good momentum and staff and board members joined in too. It was a lovely way to end the outdoor event. We were all tired from the heat but had a fun time together.  Thank you for coming to the Art Carnivale and making it a special day at Killarn
